H. M. Patterson, author of some of Butte’s most captivating architecture, designed this noteworthy home circa 1896 for Montana Iron Works proprietor Thomas P. Newton. Newton moved to California after 1902 but maintained his business here for at least another decade. The next owner was physician and surgeon Dr. Frederick McCrimmon, who lived here until about 1918 with his wife Alice, their young son, and a servant. Joseph B. Parker, president of the Morelli Motor Company, was longtime owner and resident from at least 1929 until the 1950s. Original features include a beautiful turned balustrade, modified Corinthian columns, decorative pendants along the roof line, and mansard roof. Lovely curved glass highlights the bay window while the original front door, sidelights, and transom complement the entry. Although perhaps not as flamboyant as some of its neighbors, this home has its own distinctive elegance that emphasizes Patterson’s unique designs.","sponsor":null,"accessinfo":"Private","lede":"","website":"","related_resources":["<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/GetAsset/b2694698-4c33-4e3d-b1f9-d8b8740bf6dc/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read about the Butte National Historic Landmark District</a>","<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/GetAsset/9ecb5fd7-e392-42a7-a16e-94df0f020422\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See photos of the Butte National Historic Landmark District</a>"],"factoids":[],"files":{"https://storyofbutte.org/files/fullsize/53ca57f554366059e58c92ec0e465ca6.jpg":{"id":2383,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"Newton/McCrimmon House","description":"Newton/McCrimmon House (PAc 91-51 B1 Roll15 F05).
