Massachusetts architect Will Aldrich reputedly modeled the residence after a French chateau the couple visited while honeymooning in Europe in 1896. The exterior features patterned brick enhanced by gray limestone, steep slate-covered roofs, and circular turrets. Yale-educated Charles spared no expense on details: exquisite stained glass, hand-painted wallpaper, a stately curved stairway, and the use of many kinds of rare woods reveal the work of talented craftsmen. The structure now serves Butte and Silver Bow County as a heritage museum and arts center.","sponsor":null,"accessinfo":"Private","lede":"","website":"","related_resources":["Read about the Butte National Historic Landmark District","See photos of the Butte National Historic Landmark District"],"factoids":[],"files":{"https://storyofbutte.org/files/fullsize/d86636ef617eda5db30a98ce8cda2b16.jpg":{"id":917,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"Charles Walker Clark Mansion","description":"Charles Walker Clark Mansion, facing northeast, side/front view. | MontanaPictures.net | June 2008 | MontanaPictures.net","thumbnail":"https://storyofbutte.org/files/square_thumbnails/d86636ef617eda5db30a98ce8cda2b16.jpg"},"https://storyofbutte.org/files/fullsize/fb395643cf411df595aad5c448e32f9e.jpg":{"id":2168,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"Charles Walker Clark Mansion","description":"Charles Walker Clark Mansion (PAc 91-51 B1 Roll25 F24).
