Compressed-air mucking machine.

Compressed air is a very versatile method of delivering mechanical power to workstations in the mines. Steam shovels are large mucking machines suitable for use in large excavations on Earth’s surface, such as open-pit mines. By 1920, innovators had developed numerous smaller mucking machines suitable for use in confined underground spaces. This machine lifts the muck overhead and dumps it into the ore car hitched at the back, while the operator stands to the side.
